The Hunger Games (book 1)

Winning will make you famous.
losing will mean certain death.

Twenty-four are forced to enter. Only the winner survives. In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Each year, the districts are forced by the Capitol to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal and terrifying fight to the death - televised for all of Panem to see.
Survival is second nature for sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who struggles to feed her mother and younger sister by secretly hunting and gathering beyond the fences of District 12. When Katniss steps in to take the place of her sister in the Hunger Games, she knows it may be her death sentence. If she is to survive, she must weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

What to say about the first Hunger Games? Could it be summed up in just three simple words? It's freaking awesome?! Well, I think it could be but you probably want a more detailed description so...Here I ago in the best way I can without spoiling it for those of you who haven't read the book just yet.

The Hunger Games really taps into human emotions and instincts; desperation, horror, humanity, sympathy, friendship, the first love (well, in this book it's a bit one sided), our instincts to survive and things we would do for the ones we love most with a hint of rebellion. Of course it touches into a lot more than that but they're my favourites and also the main ones. The one thing I love most about this book is that Katniss isn't afraid to be who she is and she is a strong character that some people can relate to, such as the fact that Katniss has never really fit in with everyone else and she's been through some tough struggles in which we all have to face our own but luckily we don't have to live through what Katniss does everyday though there are some people who face things that are worse than her life. Overall Katniss is s good character and not like the characters that you read about these days that are so dependant on everyone else and aren't really able to do much for themselves. I would definitely like to be as tough and independent as Katniss. I might even work on my archery skills ^-^ )

If you're looking for a star rating I would say about a four (the next two are infinitely better but you can't go past this book!). The Hunger Games is an extremely capturing page turner that you'll never want to put down! oh and one last thing....IT'S FREAKING AWESOME!

xoxo
